INFORMATION ABOUT MATTRESSES
Which mattress is the right one? What should you pay attention to?
Even if you lie down on the mattress in a furniture store for a few minutes or a few hours, you cannot reliably judge whether the mattress is right for you. You can test a few characteristics, such as whether your shoulder sinks deep enough or whether your spine is straight when lying on your side. But you won’t be able to say whether you’re sleeping comfortably, restfully and peacefully until after a few weeks. Please note the following information before placing your order.
Foam mattresses can be made from PU block foam (a plastic that is created by the polyaddition of so-called isocyanates with polyols) or cold foam (polyurethane is foamed with CO2). The quality of a foam mattress can be determined by its density, which should be reported as RG (= volumetric weight). The higher the density, the more comfortable the mattress will be while sleeping and the longer the mattress will last. A high spatial density ensures that the impact of body weight does not cause any annoying lounger depressions to form. By the way, the spatial density has nothing to do with the hardness of a mattress. Anyone who believes that they are on the safe side with a mattress that is as firm as possible is making a mistake. To support the durability of a foam mattress, it is recommended to use the matching slatted frame.
Advantages of foam mattresses:
Foam mattresses adapt very well to the contours of the body and guarantee the sleeper excellent point elasticity. Changes in sleeping position are immediately cushioned and the body is supported precisely in the new sleeping position. A foam mattress does not produce annoying background noises that could negatively impact sleep. Foam mattresses offer a long lifespan.
Disadvantages of foam mattresses:
Foam mattresses are very flammable unless they have a flame-retardant mattress cover or a fire-retardant additive.
Visco foam mattresses are often referred to as “Tempur” mattresses. This foam was originally developed at a NASA research center and was intended to be used in spacecraft. An important component of visco (elastic) mattresses is a certain polymer, which allows this mattress to adapt to the shape of the body resting on it. The body heat causes the sleeper to literally sink into the mattress. However, if you change your sleeping position, there may be slight delays as the resulting hollows only slowly disappear.
Advantages of a visco foam mattress:
This mattress has very good point elasticity and adapts to the contours of the body better than any other mattress. Especially for people who are bedridden, prone to bedsores and suffer from back problems (e.g. after a herniated disc), the Visco mattress is the first choice due to its pressure-relieving properties and is often recommended by orthopedists. This mattress does not produce any annoying background noises that negatively impact sleep.
Disadvantages of a visco-foam mattress:
The visco-mattress takes on its original shape with a delay when you change your sleeping position. This can lead to the sleeper unconsciously changing their sleep and movement behavior. Heat can build up in the resulting hollows. Body fluids are also not absorbed by this material as quickly as by other materials. People who sweat heavily while sleeping should make sure their visco mattress is breathable. For better air permeability, our Visco mattresses are equipped with additional ventilation channels.
Latex mattresses are made from natural latex, which is obtained from the sap of the rubber tree. The latex is foamed and vulcanized with the addition of sulfur and various other substances to increase durability. This means that the latex mixture is put into a mold and then baked at high temperatures. Since natural latex is not available in unlimited quantities, synthetically produced latex is also used in practice. Its properties are almost identical to those of natural rubber. The amount of natural latex contained in the mattress varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Advantages of latex mattresses:
Latex mattresses adapt very well to the contours of the body and offer the sleeper excellent point elasticity. Changes in sleeping position are immediately cushioned and the body is properly supported even in the new sleeping position. A latex mattress does not produce any annoying noise that could negatively affect sleep.
Disadvantages of latex mattresses:
Their sometimes very high weight makes latex mattresses appear unwieldy and heavy. At first, a new latex mattress may give off odors that sensitive noses may find annoying.
In pocket spring mattresses, each spring is in a fabric or fleece bag and can move. There are around 450 spring cores in a 100 x 200 centimeter mattress, so that the mattress can better adapt to the sleeper’s body shape.
But how elastically a spring core can actually absorb and support the body depends on two other factors: Firstly, it is very important how the actual spring core is covered in the mattress; experts refer to it as the “upholstery support”. If very stiff materials – fleeces, for example – are used, the good point-elastic properties of the pocket spring core are canceled out. This also applies to a mattress cover that is too tight: Stiff material or quilted seams are often the reason why even a complex pocket spring core has a similar effect on the sleeper as a simple Bonell spring core.
In Bonell spring core mattresses, the individual springs are attached in a row; They are connected with spirals at the top and bottom. The steel wire has a thickness of 2.0 to 2.5 millimeters. A Bonell spring core is like a solid, networked surface and is therefore particularly suitable for harder mattresses. The Bonell is actually the classic spring core system.
Nursing bed mattresses are a particularly inexpensive solution and have been tried and tested in many hospitals, retirement homes and in home care. The requirements for nursing bed mattresses are more specific. For example, pressure sore prophylaxis or immediate pressure relief with rapid pain relief that promotes tissue and vascular blood flow are of primary importance. We therefore only sell a high-quality nursing bed mattress with a density of RG 40.
Suitcase mattresses are quick and inexpensive solutions for at home, camping, traveling or any other occasion. The suitcase mattress offers you a comfortable and space-saving option for sleeping or sitting. Practical folding mattress as a guest bed that can be set up quickly.
Waterbed mattresses are the ideal sleeping system for anyone who struggles with nerve irritation, limb and back pain, rheumatism, arthritis, insomnia or stress. Waterbed mattresses not only support general well-being but also allow your body to achieve optimal blood circulation and an absolutely regenerative deep sleep thanks to the absence of pressure points.
Other important quality information
Density (RG)
A high density (RG) is one of the most important quality features of a mattress. The higher the density, the more durable the mattress is.
Degree of hardness (H2 and H3)
The hardness level provides information about how hard the mattress is. In addition, a high compression strength ensures that the mattress quickly returns to its original shape after pressure is applied. So if you choose a mattress with a low compression hardness, you have to expect that annoying hollows will seriously disrupt your sleep and that you will lie very softly. The hardness level H2 is suitable for people up to 85 kg . If you weigh more than 85 kg, you’re better off choosing a mattress with a hardness level of H3 .
core height
The core height is also an important quality feature. The higher the core, the greater the amount of foam used in the mattress. The more foam there is in the mattress, the harder the core is. A core that is too soft cannot withstand the pressure acting on it and allows the sleeper to sink too deeply into the mattress during the night’s rest. When comparing the core height, pay attention to whether it is really the core height alone or the total height of the mattress!
Dimensional weight, core height and degree of hardness should be adapted to your personal needs as optimally as possible.
mattress covers
A good mattress should have a washable mattress cover. This is especially true when used in children’s rooms or in the medical field. The ideal cover is free of harmful substances for the sake of your health.
